On this 2.4L engine, the alternator is mounted right at the front passenger side of the engine bay, sitting high up just above the A/C compressor and driven by the serpentine accessory belt. Because it is highly accessible right at the top of the engine, it is a straightforward DIY job. However, knowing how to safely release the belt tensioner, pull the main battery wire without grounding your wrench, and wiggle the alternator out of its tight mounting brackets will save you time and protect your car’s electrical system.
