Throttle Body Chevrolet Tahoe 4.8L 2000-2006 Location and Replacement
In this video, I show you the exact location and the complete step-by-step process to replace or remove the throttle body on a 2000-2006 Chevrolet Tahoe equipped with the 4.8L V8 engine.
Mounted right at the front of the intake manifold, the throttle body manages the airflow into your engine. Over time, it can accumulate heavy carbon buildup or suffer from internal electronic failures. Knowing how to safely unbolt it, disconnect the connections, and properly seat the new gasket will save you time and keep your engine running smoothly.
Note: Depending on your exact model year, this generation of Tahoe uses either a cable-actuated mechanical throttle body (2000-2002) or an electronic “Drive-by-Wire” throttle body (2003-2006). The mounting layout is identical, but the connections differ slightly.
Common Symptoms of a Dirty or Failing Throttle Body:
- The check engine light comes on, or the dashboard displays a “Reduced Engine Power” warning (common with electronic 2003-2006 models flagging codes like P1125 or P2135)
- A rough, erratic engine idle, or the engine stumbling and dropping RPMs when coming to a stop
- Sluggish or delayed throttle response when you step on the gas pedal
- Engine stalling shortly after starting or when idling at a traffic light
- Poor fuel economy and general engine misfire-like performance issues
Safety First
Always prioritize safety before beginning any under-hood work. Make sure the vehicle is safely parked on a flat, level surface, the emergency brake is securely engaged, and the engine is completely turned off with the keys removed. Allow the engine compartment plenty of time to cool down to avoid burns from nearby cooling hoses. If you are working on an electronic throttle body (2003-2006), you must disconnect the negative battery terminal before unplugging the unit to prevent module voltage spikes and to clear out the old idle positioning memory. Protect your eyes and hands by wearing safety glasses and durable work gloves.
