Common Symptoms of a Bad Vapor Canister Purge Solenoid:
- The check engine light comes on, frequently flagging EVAP system codes like P0442, P0455, P0496, or P0443
- The vehicle is difficult to start immediately after refueling at the gas station (the engine cranks long or stumbles)
- A rough, erratic, or fluctuating engine idle speed
- A noticeable drop in fuel economy and engine performance
- A failed emissions/smog test due to uncontrolled fuel vapor flow into the intake manifold
